ARC — Attack Retrieve Capture [WIKI] — was a groundbreaking top-down shooter game that revolutionized competitive shooter games. It introduced the concept of teamwork and was one of the first multiplayer team-based capture the flag shooters. A huge community drove weekly leagues that featured competitiveness that wouldn't be seen again until the rise of modern esports. ARC saw its demise around 2007 when Sierra Entertainment shut down, but soon rose again under many different names as the community developed replacements. The game continued to thrive for many years under different leadership, but an aging player base and the explosion of gaming in the mainstream caused the community to erode over time. The game still exists today in a couple forms, but I created this version to preserve history. Most newer versions of ARC are seeking ways to make the game explode in popularity again, but this version intends to keep it simple. The idea is to act as a way for former players to jump back in to a game with friends or bots and just play ARC. We will update the game, fix bugs and strive towards recapturing the exact gameplay of the original ARC. Our minimal footprint means this game can live on for the foreseeable future in a central place where old players can relive the glory days and new players can experience history.
